Land Acknowledgement

We acknowledge that our shelter programs operate on the traditional territory of the Attiwonderonk (Neutral), Anishinaabek, and Haudenosaunee peoples, on land governed by the treaty with the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and adjacent to the Haldimand Tract — traditional hunting grounds of the Six Nations of the Grand River.

Many First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples who have come from across Turtle Island call Guelph home today.

We recognize the complexity of the experience of homelessness for Indigenous people in that it is deeply rooted in the ongoing impacts of colonialism, displacement, intergenerational trauma, and systemic barriers.

Reconciliation in the housing and homelessness sector means acknowledging these truths and committing to change.

We stand in solidarity with Indigenous communities and remain committed to listening, learning, and working toward a future where every person has a safe, dignified place to call home.
