ICYMI: On November 15th, the federal government announced $2.6 million in funding to support the ongoing construction project at our 23 Gordon St. Emergency Shelter! This incredible boost will help us expand shelter capacity with 50 additional emergency beds and 12 transitional housing units, directly addressing the urgent needs of those in our community experiencing homelessness.

However, this funding doesn’t cover one critical component of our vision: a commercial kitchen on the main floor. This addition is vital to create a purposeful daytime space, offering:

-Food programs to combat food insecurity,

-A hub for community connection, and

-Resources to support housing and health stability and well-being across our programs and sites.

This project is about more than bricks and steel structures—it’s about infusing the spirit and legacy of Sister Christine and the original Drop-In Centre, where people always had a safe, accessible, and welcoming space to gather, connect, and feel like they belong. We’re committed to carrying forward this vision by creating spaces that don’t just meet basic needs but foster community, dignity, and purpose for all who walk through our doors.

We are actively seeking funding and donations to bring this vision to life. Food insecurity is a pressing issue, and addressing it is integral to our mission of providing more than just shelter. People need resources, care, and community to truly thrive.

Together, we can build not just housing but a place where everyone belongs. If you’d like to support this initiative, reach out to us at fundraise@steppingstonegw.com or visit our website to donate
