Exciting news for Downtown Guelph! The city’s committee of adjustment has greenlit a significant expansion for Stepping Stone at 23 Gordon St., set to be completed by Spring 2025. This project will add a third storey to the building, boosting the number of emergency shelter beds from 27 to as many as 75.

Currently, Stepping Stone offers 27 beds on the ground floor but this was not meeting the rising needs of our community as witnessed by visible encampments in the downtown core this winter. This much-needed expansion is set to greatly enhance our capacity to support those in need.

And here’s some good news on the funding front: both the City of Guelph and the County of Wellington are chipping in with operational funding for this crucial project. With this support, we will be able to make an even bigger impact in our community for those who are experiencing homelessness on their path to permanent housing. Stay tuned for more updates as this project progresses!
